Fury’s stitches are out and he seems to be doing quite well. I was expecting him to be in a bit of pain afterwards but he certianlyis not acting like it. Not the prettiest incision but he is beautiful to us.
This was Fury just days before the accident. I will update later once I get a picture of him as he is now (not a lot different, just a little less of him).
Fury’s recovery
We have had Fury home a week now and things have been busy. Fury has finished his pain meds and his personality is finally returning to where it was pre-op. He still gets grouchy when he is tired and is hesitent when handled at times but things do seem to be improving each day. It appears as if we may have our work cut out for us when it comes to keeping him quiet these next few days as we wait to meet with the vet for his post-op visit. Hopefully we will get the all clear an we can begin to socialize him more.
Fury’s Introduction
On Saturday, December 4, 2010 my family brought home a lively three month old black and while male papillon puppy. He quickly became a member of the house and settled in with our two children and two other dogs. On Monday, January 4, 2011 his life changed forever. Frightened by a larger, strange dog, he lept out of my 14 year old son’s arms while being carried in from a potty break. Our worst fears became a reality. We were very aware of the bone structure and had been very diligent about keeping the puppy safe. We all feel as if we have failed this poor little pup. The location of the fractures and the age of the dog lead the specialists to recommend amputation. Little Fury has only been home for 24 hours and we are all adjusting to this traumatic event.
I am hoping to chronicle little Fury’s journey, as well as ours, as we learn to meet each other’s needs. So far everyone is still a little jumpy and Fury becomes very anxious when being handled or moved and we are still trying to figure out the least painful and stressful way to transport him to potty breaks and to help him in and out of his crate. He is still quite wobbly. Fortunately he is eating well and seems to be enjoying sleeping quitely in his bed as long as we are near him. Our other dogs, particulary Indigo, a two year old border terrier (female) is protective and motherly to him. She has even taken him his favorite toy and lounged with him, chewing it together (of course she has also stolen toys from him as well lol).
I am hoping that Fury learns to trust us as we stumble through these first days together.
